Lavender Diamond’s ‘One Day’ Video, Movie on iTunes/Amazon

Singer/songwriter Lavender Diamond (a.k.a. Becky Stark) contributes this song, “You Broke My Heart,” to Paul Todisco’s acclaimed sci-fi film One Day Like Rain. In honor of the tune, Paul directed this new video to correspond with the film’s recent release. I tell you about this for two reasons: 1. I like Lavender Diamond, 2. Cinetic just launched One Day Like Rain on iTunes as well as on Amazon VOD. It’s especially recommended for fans of Donnie Darko.  Here’s the clip:

My Houston Holiday MP3: Tobacco’s “Hairy Candy”

I’m off to Houston for the Thanksgiving weekend, which will double as a wedding weekend for my younger brother, Chris. Looking forward to warmer climates, but will miss New York. There’s no real segue here, but check out my favorite new single. It’s from Tobacco, which is a Black Moth Super Rainbow side project. Listen below, to “Hairy Candy”:

My Obsessed MP3: Friendly Fires’ “Paris (Aeroplane Remix featuring Au Revoir Simone)”

Okay, this marks the third time in a week that I’ve blogged about the new UK dance-rock trio, Friendly Fires. What can I say? I’m obsessed with them and their new album. Do yourself a favor and check it out. To offer a slightly slanted look into their sound, check out this new remix/cover of their blissed-out song, “Paris.” Essentially what this is, is a remix by Belgian electronic act Aeroplane, with most of the vocals handled by Brooklyn belles Au Revoir Simone. That’s why it is almost as much a cover as it is a remix (courtesy of Pitchfork). So, get a new sense of a great song by a great band, with Friendly Fires’ “Paris (Aeroplane Remix featuring Au Revoir Simone).”

My CMJ MP3: Friendly Fires’ “Jump in the Pool”

The annual CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival is here. Ready? I don’t know how much I will get to check out, but I plan to see a few bands and a few films. One band near the top of my list, is Friendly Fires. This English trio knows how to bring the dance-rock, but with a sensible scope of structure and melody (kinda like Bloc Party meets M83). They’re great, and they’re playing a handful of gigs during CMJ, in support of their debut LP. Get a taste with the first single by Friendly Fires: “Jump in the Pool.”

My Moody Mashup MP3: DJ Earworm’s “Reckoner Lockdown”

The new Kanye West single and the new Radiohead single, come together like they should? It sounds that way, thanks to DJ Earworm, who has mashed-up both Kanye’s “Love Lockdown” and Radiohead’s “Reckoner.” It’s a tempting blend, and kinda gorgeous. Hear for yourself, and check out “Reckoner Lockdown” by DJ Earworm.
